A one name study is a project researching all occurrences of a surname worldwide, as opposed to a particular pedigree or descendancy.
The principal aims of the Altham One Name Study are
to collate as much information as possible on all individuals sharing the surname
to freely share this with other family history researchers
to compile family trees from the earliest known members of the family
to link these trees via further research
to expand the coverage of these trees to include other descendants.
